Washington Culture Series 2010
The popular Washington Culture Series returns this spring, offering a range of talks on art, literature, politics and philosophy. Come to argue, engage in debate or just to sit back and absorb. Places on each talk are strictly limited and are priced at £5 each, which includes a glass of wine or a tea or coffee. A discount is available for those wishing to book a place on all six talks – pay for only five – a total of only £25 for all six events.
Talks begin at 6.30pm, and usually last around an hour.
February 10th 2010: Mererid Velios
Mererid Velios looks at how artists have interpreted and depicted the stories within Ovid’s Metamorphoses, from Jupiter’s seductions in disguise to the punishments meted out to mortals by the Gods.
March 3rd 2010: Tricia Hubbard.
To conicide with the “Dolly Mixtures” exhibition, the artist gives a presentation on her work and an inside view of her sketchbooks.
April 21st 2010: Tomos Owen “Arthur Machen and the Celtic Gothic”.
A talk on the work of the Gwent-born London-Welsh writer from the fin desiecle.
May 26th 2010: Professor Stephen Knight
Twm Siôn Cati: The Welsh Robin Hood? Or Better Than That?
June 23rd 2010: Glyn Jones – A Welsh artist in Kerala
The artist gives a fasciniating insight into his experience of South India, showing how the popular craft and art has informed his own work.
July 7th 2010: Professor William Manning
